Ghost Walks: Return to the Shadows, Fridays & Saturdays in October

Historic Dumfries Virginia, Inc. proudly presents the Return to the Shadows Ghost Tour featuring:

  • Outside walking tour of the Dumfries historic area at night, including Dumfries Cemetery and the Weems-Botts Museum grounds (not inside the house)
  • The lore that made the Weems-Botts museum famous with new happenings and a new entity documented by our paranormal investigator
  • A chance to investigate Merchant Park after the tour as you decide whether the stories are true

Manassas Fall Jubilee, Oct. 1

Experience fall with a trip to historic Downtown Manassas for the 39th annual Fall Jubilee. This family friendly extravaganza fills the streets of this historic town each year and includes a wine garden, pumpkin patch, live entertainment, and more than 100 crafter and community booths. The free event runs from 10 am.-5 p.m.

Mount Vernon Fall Wine Festival & Sunset Tour, Oct. 7 – 9

George Washington’s Mount Vernon annual Fall Wine Festival & Sunset Tour is the perfect beginning to your fall season. Taste unlimited samples from Virginia wineries as you relax on the expansive East Lawn and take in the sunset view. George Washington will be in attendance, but the mansion will be closed. This event is very popular, with tickets often selling out. Buy yours early. Tickets start at $49/$59 members/non-members. 6-9 p.m. nightly.

Fall for the Book Festival, Oct 12 – 15

Travel north to Fairfax for the 2022 annual Fall for the Book Festival as it returns to an in-person format. Join authors and artists from around the world for book readings, exhibitions, performances, and discussions at George Mason University. Visit https://fallforthebook.org/ for schedule details.

Haymarket Day, Oct. 15

This annual hometown street festival includes a parade featuring local schools, performers, and law enforcement led by the year’s Town Marshall. Dozens of vendors, entertainers, a beer garden, and culinary options add to the family-friendly day. Catch the parade on Washington Street starting at 10 a.m. and enjoy festivities throughout the day until 4 p.m.

Spooky Sprint, Oct. 30

Put on your Halloween costume and get ready to run in the 4th annual Occoquan Regional Park Spooky Sprint Fun Run and 5K. The Brickmaker paved course is family, stroller, and pet friendly, so dress up the whole gang. Registration is $25/$20 for adult/youth. The 1.3-mile Fun Run starts at 8:45 a.m., and the 5K starts at 9 a.m.
